Reaction Roles
Let members self-assign roles by reacting to a message.
Reaction Roles lets a member give themselves a role by reacting to a message. It works well for opt-in pings, color roles, pronouns, or interest channels, without your moderators handing out roles by hand.
Turn it on
Enable Reaction Roles from the Modules page, then open the feature to create your first setup.
How a setup works
A setup is one message plus a list of emoji-to-role pairs:
- Choose (or post) the message members will react to.
- Add a pair for each role: pick an emoji and the role it grants.
- Save. Mody adds the reactions and starts watching for members reacting.
When someone reacts with one of your emoji, they get the matching role. Standard, custom, and animated emoji all work.
Assignment behavior
Each pair has a mode that decides what happens when a member removes their reaction:
| Mode | On react | On un-react |
|---|---|---|
| Toggle | Adds the role | Removes the role |
| Add-only | Adds the role | Leaves the role on |
Use toggle for roles members turn on and off, like ping roles, and add-only for one-way choices.
Mody needs Manage Roles, and its own role must sit above any role it assigns in your server's role list. Discord will not let a bot grant a role ranked higher than itself. See Invite the Bot.
